Triplestep Basics
Discover the groove, energy and flavour of Lindy Hop! To 1930s big band swing we dance the most important 8-count moves with the typical triple steps – and take over the dance floor.
You don’t need any experience or a dance partner – just a love of swing. Here’s the best way to get started with us.
One weekend, a few hours on Saturday and Sunday – and afterwards you’re ready to hit Freiburg’s dance floors. Or to join one of our weekly evening classes straight away.
We alternate between two Lindy Hop workshops: “Triplestep Basics” and “Charleston Basics”. They don’t build directly on each other, so it doesn’t matter which one you start with. After the weekend you can join the ongoing Lindy Hop Basics 2 class. Every now and then there are also beginner weekends for Balboa, Blues and Collegiate Shag.

We learn the 1930s Charleston basic with its typical kicks, plus variations like Fly High and Hand-to-Hand Charleston. The music is a little faster and the dance more dynamic!
All beginner weekends take place at the TanzHalle, Markgrafenstraße 38. Dates, times and prices are in the list below and on the registration page.
The next dates appear here (this needs JavaScript). You can also find them in the calendar, or write to us.
If you’re a complete beginner, the Basics 1 classes are just right for you.
Lindy Hop Basics 1 – groovy, crazy, creative. Lindy Hop is the heart of our dance school: the 1930s swing dance that has us so spellbound we never want to stop. With lots of movement and lots of freedom, it puts a smile on everyone’s face – the ultimate antidote to grey weather.
A Basics 1 class has seven sessions, then it carries on as Basics 2. In your first year you go through Basics 1 to 3 like this – always at the same time, with the same group.
Ideally flat, light and comfortable – best with leather soles so they slide better. Canvas shoes or retro leather shoes are popular (e.g. from Aris Allen or Swing and Slide). Or you can have a shoemaker put leather soles on a pair of comfy trainers. Important: street shoes are not allowed in the dance rooms!
Lindy Hop can make you sweat – so wear light clothes, and remember deodorant and a spare T-shirt for the way home. You’re welcome to bring water bottles into the dance room. In the foyer there’s tap water (free) and cheap cold drinks.
You learn fastest if you go to social dances right from the start – on your own and as a beginner, too: everyone dances with everyone, and nobody has to wait to be asked. You’ll find dates in the calendar. To practise at home: our YouTube playlist.
Pick a beginner weekend or a Basics 1 class and sign up. Or come along on a Sunday to the free crash course at the Tea Dance first.
